Durban baby case returns to court
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
The biological father of a baby girl, whose alleged kidnapping later turned out to have been staged, heads back to court today.
It's been just over a year since the child, who was a-month-old at the time, disappeared - sparking a massive search across Durban for her.
Two days after she was reported kidnapped from the city centre, police found her at the Mariannhill Toll Plaza with her mother and a man - who has since emerged as the child's biological father.
The mother pleaded guilty to charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice. She's currently serving a five-year jail term.

Meanwhile, staff members at the children's home who took care of the newborn for nine months after the ordeal say they'll never forget her. Kim Brown from HOLAH Baby House says while the baby's been returned to her family, she'll always have a special place in their hearts.
"All the cases definitely stay with us forever. This one will always stand out. It's one to remember and we still talk about it a lot. We talk about her a lot, we also have her photo up in the baby house," Brown said.
And she says they're looking forward to seeing the little one again.
