Durban adventurer with a cause cycles across SA
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A local adventurer and activist has just under 5000 more kilometres to conquer in the bid to raise awareness in standing against the violence towards women.
Michael van der Merwe will be cycling 6000km in total on behalf of the non-profit organisation, Lovedeeds, which aims to offer support to abused women in the form of legal assistance, counselling, or even shelter.
The cyclist who is currently in Durban will be heading towards Bloemfontein, in the Free State before cycling towards East London in the Eastern Cape.
Van der Merwe, who has travelled 1150 kilometres over months, says he believes that there aren't enough resources for women that are being abused.
"When you help someone - you try and help fix their whole life. Someone who has been physically abused may receive help to treat their body but usually with problems like that- your family and work life is also affected. The idea is to get stakeholders with different talents and specialties to work together and help fix that person's life," he said.
You can keep tabs on his adventure on Michael's Angel's Facebook page.
