The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) KZN chairperson, Thami Ntuli, was critical this week of what he described as the slow response by the task team set up to investigate these crimes.

He called for random police raids and said it's alarming that no arrests have been made yet in connection with the murders of four councillors in recent weeks.

Speaking at a Cabinet Lekgotla in Mayville on Thursday, Dube-Ncube insisted the recommendations by the Moerane Commission were being implemented.

"Mr Ntuli does not appreciate a lot of work that has been done by this province, but also by various stakeholders on working on the implementation of the Moerane Commission. We have even gone to the legislature where they made an oversight over how we have been implementing the Moerane Commission."

The premier said they will be taking other steps as well.

"As a province, we are working hard to build peace and stability. We will be convening the district multi-party committees to give support and ensure that urgent decision-making is done. This will also ensure that there is prompt intervention as well as early detection of possible instability."
