Dube-Ncube was elected to the position at the ANC's Provincial Elective Conference - which took place this weekend in Pietermaritzburg.

Her department has been kept particularly busy with the severe drought being experienced in most parts of KwaZulu-Natal as well as constant service delivery protests.

Over the last five days, residents of Jozini and other areas in the Umkhanyakude District have been blocking access to the area's main hospital as well as main roads - demanding water that they say was promised to them by municipal officials amidst the crippling drought.

Dube-Ncube says she has held more than one position numerous times before.

"I have been the Deputy Secretary of the ANC in the province [before]. So, [I will be continue in my ability] to balance both the organisational work and the governmental work.

"So far, we've been doing well on both fronts," she said.
