Drugs worth over R30-million seized at OR Tambo

Customs officials inspecting goods coming into the country in Gauteng have intercepted major drug packages.
They have confiscated drugs valued at more than R30-million at OR Tambo International Airport.
More than a hundred kilograms of ketamine, a hallucinogen and a base ingredient for mandrax, were found hidden in boxes.
They had come from Kenya and were declared as calcium carbonate.
But, after inspecting the white an brown substances officials in the airport's cargo section sent samples of the powder to a private lab for testing.

Hawks members are trying to establish who brought the drugs into the country.
In a separate incident, a truck driver was arrested while leaving Lesotho yesterday.
Customs officials carried out a stop and search at the Ficksburg border post in the Free State where they discovered 207 bags of dagga, weighing over 6,000 kilos, in the vehicle.
The driver's due in court soon.
