Emergency teams have responded to two separate drowning incidents at beaches, north of Durban.

At the tidal pool at uMdloti, an elderly man got into difficulty while he was swimming, when he was pulled out to the backline.
Netcare 911's Shawn Herbst says the incident happened on Monday afternoon.
"The patient was spotted by lifeguards who swam to the gentleman's aid. Lifeguards pulled the man out of the water who then rapidly started CPR after he was found unresponsive and not breathing.

Other beachgoers called for help when he disappeared under the water.
