Drought hits KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife resort camps
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The ongoing drought has dealt a severe blow to two KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife resort camps including a flagship Ithala camp in Louwburg.
Both sites have run out of water. Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane told the country yesterday that the drought currently affects 173 of 1 628 water supply schemes nationally - which serve 18% of the population.
Ezemvelo's Jabulani Ngubane says their Hill top camp at the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve has also run dry.
He says six rhino, some buffalo and antelope have died in their Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve during the drought.
"We have already started with water restrictions. We have printed notices to all our guests at reserve to encourage them to save water", he said.
"We have also put a proposal through to the provincial Cooperative Governance Department in terms of a drought relief programme and are still waiting", Ngubane said.
