Don't air electricity billing gripes to the media: City
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The eThekwini Municipality is pleading with customers who have issues with their electricity bills to raise them with the City - instead of running to the media.
It's also assuring customers the municipality will not disclose any information on their bills to a third party.
In a statement, the municipality says its plea stems from "recent misleading" news articles on its billing system - which have seen some customers stuck with unusually high bills.

Residents whom this applies to are encouraged to deal with the city directly.
EThekwini admits that from the millions of bills it processes every month - less than a thousand have been incorrect due to human error, as well as the cut over period when it changed its billing system.
Customers are encouraged to check and compare their bill with previous readings to see if they've been charged accurately.
