Dolly Tshabalala's death was a mistake, DJ Donald tells reporters
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Former Jozi FM DJ Donald Sebolai has apologised to the family of his girlfriend - but insists her death was a mistake.
"We were just fighting for the knife. I was trying to disarm her. That's it," he said.
Sebolai spoke to journalists shortly before he was taken away following his sentencing.
The South Gauteng High Court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court this afternoon sentenced him to 20 years in prison for the murder of Dolly Tshabalala in June 2014.
He was found guilty in October.
Sebolai maintains he did not kill Tshabalala, explaining that during one of their regular fights, they had struggled over a knife that she had used to stab him in the fingers, but then stabbed herself on the abdomen.
He was asked by reporters in court today why he went on the run while Tshabalala lay in a pool of blood in his flat.
"I explained to the court even earlier on that I was in a state of shock during that time. I didn't even know what was happening," he said.
