Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
With the municipal debtors’ book approaching the R4,5 billion mark the city of uMsunduzi says it has no choice but to resume disconnections.
Officials say customers with unpaid utility bills and other debtors who haven’t spoken to the municipality about a payment plan, will be cut off.
The city’s Thobeka Mafumbatha says they understand covid-19’s impact on South Africans.
She’s advised those who’re struggling to speak to them. She says those caught tampering the with their meters will be fined.
"In order the municipality to keep delivering services it is important for resident to play their part by paying their bills", she said.
"People already in errors can pay deposits and make payment arrangements so we can continue with uninterrupted services", Mafumbatha said.
