DIRCO monitoring security concerns

The Department of International Relations and Co-operation says it will continue to monitor the situation in other African countries where there have been reprisals for attacks in South Africa on foreign nationals.

Yesterday, the department said embassies and consulates in parts of the continent have been fielding queries from South Africans there.

Many apparently fear for their safety.

The department's Lunga Ngqengelele says they in contact with embassies, especially in Nigeria.

"We are monitoring the situation through our embassies in Nigeria. We are happy that there are no questions around diplomatic ties, just people expressing concern about safety."
