Dirco to assist in case of SA woman nabbed with drugs in Panama
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Department of International Relations says it will make contact with its consulate in Panama and the family of a South African woman who was allegedly found with over R 4million worth of cocaine in her possession.
The 42 year-old was arrested yesterday at the Tocumen International Airport. She was about to board a flight to Portugal, via Spain.
The department’s Clayson Monyela says punishment for such crimes varies from country to country.
"In certain countries issues related to drugs invite capital punishment and this is a message that South Africans need to hear," he said.
"The laws in other countries are not the same as in our county, so it is a very serious matter. We cannot get involved or interfere with the legal processes because if you commit a crime the law takes its cause," Monyela said.
