Diesel price hike reverses gains made in farming industry - Agri SA
Updated | By OFM
The gains made by the farming industry when Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana reduced the general fuel levy by R1.50 per litre in March this year have been reversed by the recent hike in the price of diesel.
This is according to Executive Director at Agri SA, Christo van der Rheede.
He says farmers are still reeling from high input costs because of hikes in fertiliser, herbicides, and electricity prices, as well as labour costs.

Van der Rheede says Agri SA will approach government to discuss the issue.
"We already called on government to reduce the fuel levy and government did that.
"Our call was to them to suspend it with a bigger percentage, but we will certainly request government to have a look at the diesel rebate to alleviate the pressure on the industry because this industry is critical for food production."
