The African National Congress’ Thoko Didiza has been elected as the new speaker of the National Assembly.

Didiza received 284 votes, while the EFF's Veronica Mente failed to garner more than 50.
"In term of item 6 of part a of schedule three of the constitution, I accordingly declare honourable Didiza duly elected Speaker of the National Assembly,” Chief Justice Raymond Zondo announced.
Meanwhile, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says only the elected president will announce which parties are part of the government of national unity.

He briefed the media during an adjournment at the National Assembly in Cape Town.
"You will know the composition of the government of national unity when the president announces. We will be working with the strategic framework of the government of national unity.
"We have the statement intent that we have distributed to political parties to make comments. Things are fluid. They work very fast."
