DHA launches new identification system
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Department of Home Affairs says it has developed a strategy that focuses on re-opening offices on Saturdays and also addresses IT system downtime.
The department launched a new identification system this morning, that it says will also help tackle the issue of long queues and identity theft.
The new system will see citizens being identified through fingerprints and iris scans.
Infants will also have their palms and footprints scanned.
Home Affairs Director General Mkuseli Apleni says the system will also speed up the time it takes to offer various services.
“The system will make it quicker for us to service our clients. It will reduce the impact of queues on the department,” Apleni says.
He goes further to say that the department has also appointed a company to develop a new network for the department, to address the issue of the system crashing.
