Dept's sanitary programme to grow woman-led businesses
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
The Department of Women says it hopes its programme to distribute free sanitary pads to young girls in KwaZulu-Natal - will also empower local women-owned enterprises.

The R27-million programme kicked off on Monday.
Out of fear, many school girls from impoverished areas are forced to stay at home from school during their periods, as they don't have access to feminine hygiene products.
The department's Shalen Gajadhar says the project will also empower women in business.
"For example, KwaZulu-Natal having allocated R27-million to this project will then have to ensure - guided by the sanitary dignity framework that we've launched - that woman-led businesses have the preference in producing these pads."
