Dept of Labour in KZN addressing UIF payment backlogs
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
The Department of Labour in KwaZulu-Natal says it is working around the clock to fast-track Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) payments to beneficiaries.
It says enquiries such as status of applications, credit days, payment dates and amounts have been causing long queues at its centres.
The department's provincial communications officer, Nhlanhla Khumalo, says the situation has been largely exacerbated by the lockdown.

"So, as a result, a number of applications has not cleared so that then resulted in a backlog.
"We are as a province are in a position now to say we are working on the backlog and we shall soon be paying all the outstanding UIF applications to our clients and we hope to do that as soon as possible."
