Dept assigns team to support family after Mariannhill tragedy

The relatives of a family that was found murdered in their Mariannhill home, are being offered support by the Social Development Department.
A trauma response team has been sent to the Thornwood home were the incident occurred this past weekend.
It's alleged a 21-year-old man stabbed his mother, girlfriend and three-month-old child to death before committing suicide.
His two-year-old daughter survived but is being monitored in hospital.

The department's Ncumisa Ndelu says they will not make any hasty decisions regarding the safe keeping of the child, as they've prioritised her well being.
"The first task for the team is to ensure the well-being of the two-year-old. The MEC has also instructed that they look for the girlfriend's family. The woman had a brother who lived in the area who is the uncle to the deceased," Ndelu said.
