Dep of Basic Education releases revised school calendar
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
With interruptions to children’s education due to the COVID-19 crisis, the Department of Basic Education says it has revised the 2020 school calendar.
All learning and teaching will resume on the 24th of August.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced recently that public schools would take a four-week break.
Grade 12 pupils though would head back to school after a week at home.
The department’s spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says the school year for learns from Grade R to 11 will end on the 15th of December.
"We do acknowledge that some of the work will have to continue into the new year," said Mhlanga.

He said this refers mainly to the work that has got to do with grade 12 exams because these will be concluded by the 15th of December.
Marking and all other administration that follows will go well into January.
The date for the release of the matric results will be the 22nd or 23rd of February.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will explain how each grade will return to school in the government gazette next week.
