Denosa: Nurses can’t be blamed for newborns in boxes
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) says nurses can't be held responsible for newborn babies having been placed in cardboard boxes at a North West government hospital.
The incident happened at Mahikeng Provincial Hospital last week Sunday.
It's understood the infants were put in the boxes as there weren't enough cots and incubators.
The North West Health Department says it will take action against nurses involved in the incident.

Last week, the province's health authorities said the baby bed shortage was not raised in the weekly reports compiled by nurses.
But Denosa says the healthcare workers at the hospital have been vocal about the lack of resources.
It says if anyone should be suspended, it should be the hospital's CEO and the Corporate Service Manager.
The union says nurses had to improvise while waiting for management to sort out the cot and incubator shortage.
