The Transport and Community Safety department in KZN says its concerned of the slow pace of the issuing of trading licenses.
Acting MEC, Kwazi Mshengu, took part in Operation Vala yesterday which aims to reduce crime in the eThekwini District. Mshengu says he will be consulting with the eThekwini Municipality to fast track this.
"This is a matter I will be taking up with the eThekwini mayor and the leadership of the municipality because most people are indicating that they have made applications but have been told to return at different times", he said.
"If we are not careful about this it might start affecting livelihoods", Mshengu said.
Mshengu also says he's noted the allegations of bribery to obtain these permits.
"We will probably need to institute an investigation so we can root out any corrupt officials. It is a matter that has been on our radar because we want everyone to abide by the law", Mshengu said.
