Decision to be made on extension on eThekwini's COVID-19 debt relief

eThekwini's executive committee will today decide, whether to extend the city's Covid-19 debt relief programme.
The Finance Cluster made the proposal to EXCO yesterday.
The programme, which was implemented in July, is due to expire at the end of this month.
If it's extended, it'll lead to interest fees being cancelled and municipal residents will have until the 30th of June next year to make payment arrangements with the City.

They'll be allowed to pay a portion of their accounts, in arrears. eThekwini's Msawakhe Mayisela.
"We are doing this because we are a caring city. We are fully aware that residents are very hamstrung by the consequences of the pandemic. So we are hopeful that if the council approves it, this is going to usher in much-needed debt relief."
