Debate on Phiyega's future continues
Updated | By Portia Cele

President Jacob Zuma recently announced that Phiyega could face an inquiry into her fitness to hold office in response to a report on Marikana.
The institute's Frans Cronje says should the Commissioner be found unfit to hold office, she might receive a form of compensation to vacate the position.
"Miss Phiyega has a few options here. We've seen in recent cases of senior officials being forced to leave their jobs. There have been significant payouts made to some of them.
"So she might be seeking to position herself for a payout although the media, civil society and the public at large are rightly very critical of paying people who underperform to lose their job," he said.
The Presidency announced on Friday that Zuma had written to Phiyega, informing her of his intention to institute an inquiry.
It also afforded Phiyega the opportunity to make representation as to why she should not be suspended pending the outcome of the probe.
