Two bodies were discovered in the Central City shopping centre in Mabopane, north of Pretoria this morning, following a night of chaos there.

The Tshwane Metro Police's Console Tleane says one suspect was shot dead.

''It does appear that one [died from gunshot wound] and the other one in a suspected stampede,'' he said.

Two other people were killed on Tuesday night in Mamelodi, while a member of the ANC was shot dead outside the Tshwane Events Centre on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, police are denying allegations that officers took part in the looting of some shops in Tshwane.

Photos have done the rounds especially on Facebook, showing police members holding various goods.

But Brigadier Mashadi Selepe say they are concerned about the media reports - which she says are not true.

''Those pictures, there is no caption on them and we are not so sure what are they trying to perpetuate. But, just to bring this into perspective, our members were deployed there and managed to arrest most of the suspects and they were returning those goods back to the owners,'' she said.

The violence began earlier this week after the ANC announced that Thoko Didiza is the ruling party's first choice for mayoral candidate for Tshwane replacing current mayor Kgosientso Ramakgopa after the August 3 municipal elections.
