De Ruyter 'disappointed' at not achieving Eskom objectives
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Outgoing Eskom CEO Andre De Ruyter says he is disappointed that he was not able to achieve all the objectives he had set for himself.
"The circumstances surrounding Eskom are well known," he said at a briefing on Thursday afternoon.
"The operational challenges, financial challenges, challenges surrounding societal matters including crime and corruption as well as some of the issues that we have experienced in delivering the unbundling of Eskom, making sure that we can achieve our objectives in that regard."

It was confirmed on Wednesday that De Ruyter had resigned.
He said he would remain in the role until the end of March, when a new CEO steps in.
De Ruyter said he is in a position where he's also dependent on the support of the broader political economy.
"That support is absolutely critical to enabling the success of Eskom going forward. Given recent media reports, I am unfortunately currently in a position where I do not regard that position as being tenable."

"I have accordingly decided to step back to afford the opportunity to appoint a candidate to the position of group chief executive who may better suit it and may be better equipped for the strategic and operational objectives at hand."
