De Lille: Public Works to assist with KZN rebuilding efforts
Updated | By Marius van der Walt
Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Patricia de Lille says her
department is assisting with reconstruction efforts in flood-hit KwaZulu-Natal.
De Lille tabled her department's budget in Parliament on Tuesday.
Last month's heavy storms in the province created a trail of destruction, triggering mudslides, rockslides, and flooding.
Government says it will cost hundreds of millions of rands to repair roads and infrastructure which require either a partial or complete rebuild.

De Lille says her department's working with Cooperative Governance to mitigate the impact of the disaster.
"The department's resources will focus on the current 53 government buildings in KZN damaged by the floods and that we are making usable. The department is also identified 258 pieces of land while the Department of Public Works and Human Settlements in KZN has identified another 25 pieces of land.
“These land parcels have been assessed for suitability for the resettlement of displaced communities by housing development agency.”
