DBE investigating school rape allegations
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
KwaZulu-Natal authorities have launched an inquiry into allegations that a five-year-old girl was raped in the toilets at a Groutville school on the province’s north coast. It is believed that the girl was molested by two Grade 6 boys last week.
Her parents alerted authorities as well as the Department of Basic Education.
Spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says his offices are doing all they can to assist police.
He says it’s disturbing to think that such a crime could have been committed at the hands of children.
He says if the allegations turn out to be true, that drastic disciplinary action will be taken against the boys involved.
