Macpherson launched his campaign on Friday in Glenwood, in Durban.

He outlined some of the milestones the party has been to able to achieve.

"In eighteen wards of the ANC in KZN, seven just in eThekwini, the ANC fell to under 50% in the province. We want our very first municipality under the leadership of Mayor Chris Pappas and his incredible team in Umngeni.

“Most importantly we put the party in KZN in the best possible position to take over government so that we can save this province in 2024," said Macpherson.

Regarding the DA's alliance with the IFP in KZN, Macpherson said they will continue to guard against being drawn into unhealthy politics and rather focus on the common goal of service delivery and taking more of the province away from the ANC.

"Where we can't agree with the IFP, so be it. But we have to try and work out those differences as best as we can and look at what has been achieved over the last few years. They've recalled the mayor of Abaqulusi, they've recalled the speaker of Abaqulusi, they've recalled the ward councillor of Ward 20 in Alfred Duma Local Municipality. So where the DA plays its opposition role, we also achieve results."
