DA’s Chris Pappas cleared of nepotism allegations
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
A probe by KZN Cogta has cleared Umngeni Mayor Chris Pappas of any wrongdoing.
The investigation into the DA’s candidate for KZN premier was launched after allegations of nepotism were levelled against him.
Last year, former DA member Sizwe Mchunu filed a complaint with the Public Protector, claiming the uMngeni Tourism NPO, led by Pappas's partner at the time, had been given preferential treatment by the municipality.
Pappas and his former partner have been cleared of alleged corruption.

The DA’s provincial chair, Dean Macpherson, says the findings support their view that the allegations were unfounded.
"The real tragedy of the story is that it has consumed precious resources within the provincial government and the Department of Cooperative Governance to investigate these claims that were without substance or without evidence.
“We hope that the ANC will reflect on their behaviour and turn their attention to real corruption that exists within the municipality.”
