Dan Plato elected Cape Town's new mayor
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Dan Plato has been handed the mayoral chain of Cape Town.
He was elected as the new mayor at a special council sitting this morning.
Last week, Patricia de Lille resigned from the position and as a member of the DA.
The DA has welcomed Plato's election, saying he's proven his commitment to service delivery.
The party's Western Cape provincial leader, Bonginkosi Madikizela believes Plato will bring much-needed stability to the city.
"Dan Plato is an old hand. He understands the dynamics and challenges of Cape Town. I'm sure you are aware that this is his second stint as mayor. But he brings two very important qualities needed in Cape Town currently.
"The first quality is that he is a bridge builder and we need someone who will really bring all those people together. More importantly, he brings the quality of being a people's person," Madikizela said.
