DA welcomes Molefe order
Updated | By MorneJK
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has welcomed an order by the North Gauteng High Court preventing former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe from returning to work.
The court order is pending a Labour Court application by Molefe asking that he be allowed to return to the power utility.
According to the DA's James Selfe, Molefe's latest court application is nothing more than an act of desperation.
"No doubt Mr Molefe's cronies at Saxonwold were very unhappy that their man-in-Eskom is on his way out," he told Jacaranda FM News.
"This means that the Labour Court matter, started by Molefe, will go ahead as soon as possible and that we will intervene in that matter as an interested party.”
Should Molefe’s Labour Court application be successful, the DA will return to the courts to ask it to interdict Eskom from employing him.
"Our grounds are not contractual but challenge the rationality of the decision to re-appoint him as head of the power utility," Selfe says.
This comes after Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown instructed the Eskom board to rescind its decision to reinstate Molefe.
