DA welcomes IFP's win at Umkomaas by-election

The Democratic Alliance has welcomed the Inkatha Freedom Party's victory in the Umkomaas by-election.
Wednesday's vote in eThekwini's Ward 99 was triggered by the killing of ANC councillor Mnqobi Molife in Margate in September.
Last month, the IFP and the DA announced that they had agreed to work together in KZN with the common purpose of unseating the ANC.
As part of the deal, the DA withdrew its candidate from contesting the Umkomaas vote to give IFP, which is a bigger party in the area, a better chance of winning the ward off the ANC.
The DA's KZN leader Francois Rodgers says they are working to unseat the ANC wherever possible.

"Our discussions and continued discussions with the IFP on a bilateral basis as to our strategic objectives of reducing the ANC's power both at local government level and provincial level is starting to pay dividends.
"Our main focus and aim are to reduce the strength of the ANC running up to the 2024 election, which clearly tells the people of the province of KwaZulu-Natal that there can be life after the ANC and the possibility of a new political landscape and a new government looms in 2024."
Earlier, the IFP said it was extremely happy with its win.
The party says the people of Umkomaas have been calling for change.
It says they are confident in councillor Jane Naidoo's ability to serve the community with dignity and diligence.
