DA welcomes Bell Pottinger expulsion

The DA has welcomed the ruling that embattled PR firm, Bell Pottinger has been axed from the UK's PR trade body with immediate effect.

This after a committee found it had run a campaign in South Africa aimed at causing racial discord adding that Bell Pottinger appears to have done exactly that.    

The committee was set up by the UK-based trade giant, Public Relations and Communications Associations.

Bell Pottinger had been accused of implementing covert social media campaigns to take attention away from State Capture allegations surrounding the Gupta family and President Zuma.

Phrases including "white monopoly capital" had been used during its work for Gupta-owned Oakbay Capital.   

Bell Pottinger's also been slapped with a five-year membership ban from the UK's PR trade body.  

The DA's Phumzile van Damme says the PR firm isn't off the hook yet. 

"The expulsion of Bell Pottinger is very serious indeed. The DA will be studying the report intently and exploring whether further steps can be taken against Bell Pottinger and the Gupta family," she says.
