The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal has attributed Msunduzi's crippling challenges to ineffective leadership.
The party submitted a motion of no confidence against Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla, who took office three years ago.
DA Msunduzi Caucus Chairperson Ross Strachan says the municipality, has for a long time, been battling a series of issues, including financial mismanagement, service delivery problems and ageing resources.

"The DA Caucus in Msunduzi submitted a Motion of No Confidence in the Mayor to the Office of the Speaker and the City Manager to be tabled and voted upon at the next Full Council meeting at the end of the month."
"The DA believes that the Mayor continues to fail in his mandate and continues to lack the political will and leadership to effectively deal with the complete collapse of the Municipality."
