The DA says the time has come to hold the ministers serving on the National Energy Crisis Committee accountable for the load shedding crisis.

President Cyril Ramaphosa established the committee in July.

He tasked it with finding solutions to the country's ongoing power woes.

Load shedding has however continued unabated  - and the DA now wants the various ministers who serve on the committee to be called to Parliament to explain what has been done to alleviate the situation.

Ministers on the committee include Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe and Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan.

The DA's Kevin Mileham says South Africans deserve feedback.

“In the time where South African are calling for transparency and accountability on the energy crisis and despite having to preside over the worst loadshedding episode since they were appointed, National Energy Crisis Committee ministers have instead opted to operate like a secret society.

“Parliament should not applicate its responsibility to hold the executive to account and should be at the forefront  of enforcing accountability over the work of the national energy crisis committee.
