DA vows to fight Msunduzi’s Royal AM deal ‘tooth and nail’
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The DA
has reacted with fury to the decision by Msunduzi Municipality to sponsor
Royal AM Football Club.
Council recently approved a proposal to sponsor the club over a period of three years - to the value of some R27 million.
The deal will see Royal AM use the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg as their home ground.
The club is owned by businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize and her son Andile Mpisane.

The DA's Ross Strachan says the deal makes no sense.
"For years, the DA has fought against the ludicrous spending on PSL clubs that bear no returns for the municipality that can barely afford residents with basic services.
"This is a plan to once again syphon funds from the municipality and continue lining the pockets of caders and ANC politicians and those closely affiliated to the party. The DA will fight this tooth and nail, this outrageous and disgraceful irregular proposal through all authorities necessary."
The Municipality says the deal will go as planned.
