The party says, from its side, a Private Members Bill is in the works.

Kevin Mileham, who's the DA's Energy Shadow Minister, explains they're in favour of competition between wholesalers and retailers.

He says while they've welcomed the relief measures announced by Mineral Resources and Energy, our fuel price model needs to be reviewed.

Mileham says it attracts a lot of levies, in its current form, which work out to around 35% of the total cost motorists are having to pay.

"The R1.50 rebate that we've had will be kicking back in from 1 June, so all of that means there is absolutely no progress being made to keep the cost of fuel down.

"What we are proposing is allowing the market to determine the price and to allow much more competition between wholesalers and retailers of fuel and thus bring the price of fuel down."
