DA in support of eThekwini security's salary plea
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
The DA in KZN says it sympathises with frustrated VIP protection guards who stormed council offices this week over salary issues.
The party's Heinz De Boer says they've previously submitted proposals to the city urging it to address salary concerns.
"Those are the guards that are used to guard the mayor and the deputy mayor and I believe, the speaker. So it's the most senior members of the executive who receive security from these guards.
"They are traditionally the people who have looked after all the mayors. Some of those looked after the previous mayor and the mayor before that. They have been there for 15 to 20 years in this capacity with little or no pay increase," he said.
Yesterday a group of more than 100 guards stormed an EXCO meeting - the second such incident in as many months.
