The DA's Zwakele Mncwango feels the Municipality isn't addressing issues of wasteful expenditure and corruption.

He has highlighted the purchase of Casspir military vehicles costing around R20-million as well as the overspending of R68-million on the Essence Festival.

He has also highlighted the departure of some key municipal officials.

"We have institutions. For example, we have an audit committee which is investigating these cases in the municipality and after making a recommendation to this counsel - the Mayor and the ANC leadership decided to hide these reports. It's the first time - in over three months - where we can't even get a report.

"Now it has been over 12 months and we haven't seen this audit report. That is the reason why the head of audit have left the municipality because he was getting frustrated," he said.

According to media reports, Phillip Ntsimane, the municipality's Chief Audit Executive is leaving to take up a job with the City of Tshwane.

eThekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede has touched on his reported departure in a press release following yesterday's EXCO meeting.

The statement says while there are allegations that Ntsimane had left eThekwini, the City Manager hasn't received a resignation letter from Ntsimane.

Gumede says as far as she's concerned, the city isn't facing a staff exodus adding that service delivery remains on track.

She has stressed that the City is not collapsing.
