The army was deployed last week after 21 trucks were hijacked and torched in KZN, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

But the party's Dianne Kohler Barnard feels not enough is being done to contain the situation.

Five people have been arrested so far.

Kohler Barnard, who sits on Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence, laid terrorism charges against the group at Berea police station on Wednesday.

She said it's clear organised syndicates are carrying out the crimes.

"To deploy them (the SANDF) internally is a huge issue, and it tells me that the SAPS can't cope. They certainly didn't cope two years ago (during the July riots), they were caught completely with their pants down.

Our crime intelligence was nowhere, state security was nowhere, and they all ended up fighting. We got rid of two ministers. The police minister has stayed where he was. We got new people in there now."
