DA to lodge SAHRC complaint over eThekwini water issues
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The DA lodged
a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission over what it’s
described as the prolonged failure to provide water by eThekwini Municipality.

In its complaint, the opposition party has accused the city of violating residents’ constitutional right to access sufficient water by failing to provide the resource.
Ongoing supply problems have provoked a growing backlash from people across Durban in recent years.
Recommendations were made by the HRC last year following an inquiry which revealed that KZN municipalities violated their residents’ right to access clean drinking water.
DA leader John Steenhuisen addressed the media in Durban on Saturday.
"We will be asking the Human Rights Commission to investigate eThekwini’s failure to restore water services to communities from Phoenix, Verulam, Tongaat, including Besters, where people haven't had water for some 14 years."
