DA in KZN wants police service audit to curb crime
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The DA in KZN believes a police service audit would help reduce the province's crime rate.
The party launched an anti-crime campaign in Ntuzuma township on Wednesday.
Provincial leader Francois Rodgers said reports about police officers being found on the wrong side of the law are concerning.
In June, a Umlazi cop was arrested for allegedly offering a R40 000 bribe in exchange for an unopposed bail application in a multi-million-rand business robbery case.

Recently, two officers were handed jail sentences in Durban for their role in the theft of copper cables.
Speaking during the launch of the campaign, Rodgers said he believes police corruption influenced criminal behaviour in the province.
"A skills audit and assessment performance needs to be done. That will then indicate whether, indeed, there is a lack of capacity.
"When I engaged Lt Gen Mkwanazi, he felt his hands were tied because politicians were not giving him the necessary support to be able to deal with the challenges in SAPS. I think that is part of the problem."
