DA KZN wants law enforcement beefed-up on N2

The DA in KZN believes that in order to put a dent in motorist attacks, law enforcement teams would need to step up visible policing on the N2 in Durban.

Last week, a man was shot and killed at the Tugela River Bridge after his vehicle broke down.

A few days earlier, a motorist was robbed and stabbed near Spaghetti Junction.

It's understood that he was trying to dodge rocks placed on the road, when he crashed his car into a barrier.

There was also an incident at the Yellowwood Park Bridge recently.

The DA's spokesperson on Transport, Sharon Hoosen believes a modern solution's needed to curb these attacks.

"Recent arrests by SAPS of suspects involved in the placing of rocks on the N2 is most welcome, but much more needs to be done. The cameras on the N2 must be functioning and monitored.

"The drone technology that was promised by the MEC for Transport must be initiated. We also want to know what is the contribution made by the eThekwini Municipality's Safety Portfolio towards resolving issues of the criminal activities on these roads."
