DA in Ugu plan to oppose water tariff hikes before council
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The DA caucus in the Ugu District Municipality says it will lodge a petition to oppose a plan to increase water tariffs in the south coast district by 22%.

The proposal was tabled at a council meeting recently.
Ugu says budget reviews are taken into consideration when determining the proposed hike.
The party's Leonard Ngcobo says it doesn't make sense, with residents and businesses having to deal to regular water cuts.
"We will contest these hikes in council and we will be able in that meeting to give an alternative - as to how these increases should be phased in instead of suddenly putting in just 22%. Consumers are not ready - if you look at the economic climate of South Africa," Ngcobo said.
