DA hopeful in its Nkandla application

The DA says it strongly believes it will achieve its objective to have the police minister's report on Nkandla nullified.

The party is this afternoon filing papers in the Western Cape High Court to have the report set aside as irrational.

A few weeks ago, Nathi Nhleko issued his report on security upgrades spending at the president's home which stated that Jacob Zuma does not have to pay a cent of the R246-million that has so far been spent.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane says Zuma cannot continue to hide behind the minister's report and must take responsibility.

''I think the president must realise that he's under severe pressure to be able to get through this matter and we've shown in court that we will take the president on and succeed that's the issue here.

"I believe that the president must comply with the public protector's remedial action. The case I believe it is very strong,'' he said.

The EFF has also gone to the Constitutional Court to ask it to compel Zuma to pay back some of the Nkandla money.

Yesterday, Parliament adopted the Ad Hoc Committee's report on Nkandla which endorses Nhleko's report and that of Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi.
