According to the department the event was an official gathering under the banner of Multi-Genre Music Festival and Festival of Beads and was held at a popular Morningside night club in Durban.

Each person in attendance was also reported to have been catered with booze of up to R6 000 each.

Since the event Amanda Bani-Mapena resigned as MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture.

The DA's Dean Macpherson says they believe there are other senior officials who should be accountable.

"I know that our party has taken this situation very seriously within the legislature and they're going to demand answers. If there's one thing I know, it just won't stop with her. There would have been other officials that approved this. The treasury must have approved this, there are a number of other people who must have known, maybe the premier even knew herself."
