The party went into the elections as the official opposition in the legislature - but spent most of yesterday behind leader ANC and IFP.

The DA in KZN has managed to increase its share to a little over 20% of the vote compared to the 13% it had garnered as of 10pm last night.

The ANC's performance has remained stable at around 53%, the IFP has lost some ground falling back from nearly 19% to 17% this morning.

The EFF sits at 8.95% of the provincial vote so far.

At least two thirds of the provincial results have been captured and processed. The DA remains confident that it will move into second on the leader board as more urban results come in.

On a national level, the ANC is at around 57% and the DA - 21%. The EFF's performance has moved to double figures overnight - currently sitting at 10,1% of the processed result.

The EFF in KZN remains hopeful that it's standing on the provincial results board will improve as the vote count from the larger urban areas come in.

"This is our stronghold. This is where we have a lot of tertiary institutions - where students are our base," he said.
