DA to challenge eThekwini over E. coli levels
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
With yet another local beach closed due to high levels of E.c oli, the DA in KZN says it's a step closer to securing a court date to hold eThekwini accountable.
A faulty pump station near Westbrook Beach has been spewing raw sewage into the sea, leaving an unbearable stench at the beach.
The beach was awarded blue flag status just a few years ago.
The Democratic Alliance went on an oversight visit there on Monday.

The party's provincial chairperson Dean Macpherson says it's unacceptable that locals' health is put at risk.
He says what's happening at Westbrook Beach reflects a widespread failure in the upkeep of beaches in eThekwini.
"Between the mayor, city manager and every person in eThekwini, they keep telling us that the beaches are safe, and they are clearly not.
"Umhlanga beach is closed on a long weekend and that is completely tragic to see a beach empty like that. That affects people's livelihoods, jobs, an economic prospects and just clearly not a plan by the eThekwini Municipality, and they should be spending money on fixing services."
