The DA's Mmabatho Tembe says they believe there is a rise in illegal facilities, which pose a threat to the lives of children.
She says authorities must ensure all non-compliant daycare centres are shut down.
"We call on the MEC of social development [Nonhlanhla Khoza] to work very closely with the MEC of Education [Mbali Frazer] to work together and find out which of these sorts of centres are illegal and which ones are unregistered and continue the operation of closing these sort of centres down to that the most vulnerable children are protected."
