DA leader Mmusi Maimane says the party will bring a motion to dissolve Parliament.

This folllows last night's unsuccessful motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma.
The vote was closer than most analysts expected, with several ANC MPs voting to remove President Zuma.
Maimane says the motion will be brought in terms of section 50 of the Constitution.
"We believe that Parliament requires a fresh mandate, and that mandate ought to be given by the voters through the ballot box. This will be tabled in Parliament tomorrow," says Maimane.

According to Section 50 of the Constitution, the President must dissolve the National Assembly if it adopts a resolution to do so and three years have passed since the Assembly was elected.
"Yesterday was an historic moment for our nation. So for the first time in the 23 years of our democracy that such number of ANC MPs broke rank and voted with the opposition in defiance of the party line," says Maimane.
